Elaine Lee is an avid world traveler, travel writer and media maven. She is the author/editor of "Go Girl: The Black Woman's Book of Travel and Adventure" as well as a freelance travel writer who has contributed to the numerous national and local magazines, newspapers and webzines. Her travel stories generally address subjects such as African American travel trends, adventure, women’s travel issues, spirituality, solo travel, health, budget travel and travel planning. She has also contributed stories to five anthologies and two books.

She has been featured on popular national as well as local radio and television shows including appearances on the Travel Channel and Savvy Traveler. The Bay Area's first travel radio show was developed by Elaine and travel writing colleague, Pamela Michaels in 1999 for Bay Area/Northern California station, KPFA-FM. She served as co-host from its inception through 2003 and continues to appear as a regular guest.

Her website, Ugogurl.com, provides a medium to share her travel writing as well as that of other travelers and travel writers. She conceptualized, created and helps maintains the site, which averages 8,000 hits per month. Coordinating and/or conducting seminars on travel writing and international travel are a passion of hers.

She is an internationalist who has completed two solo trips around the world, 1992 and 2004, and continues to travel regularly. She has visited 51 countries. She is an avid long distance swimmer, bibliophile, salsa dancer, skier, amateur astronomer, whitewater rafter, sailor, cyclist, culinary wizard and she maintains a personal yoga and meditation practice. She is a regular volunteer at Alameda County Bar Association/Charles Houston Bar Association's low income legal clinic and the Berkeley Animal Shelter.
